La obra La chambre d'amour que interpretará la compañía de danza Malandain Ballet Biarritz fue escrita por Thierry Malandain en el año 2000. Se trata del primer ballet que imaginó a su llegada a Biarritz y el único en el que el País Vasco fue su inspiración directa. Este ballet reúne en una narración original los grandes mitos amorosos, donde los héroes se cruzan en un universo en el que el océano y las estrellas se funden en uno solo.
La Chambre d’amour es una gruta legendaria de la Costa Vasca donde hace tiempo murieron dos amantes. Situado en la ladera del un acantilado, este vientre fecundado por el océano esconde todo tipo de misterios relacionados con la vida y la muerte. La historia les dio los nombres de Ura y Ederra (agua y belleza en Euskera). Estaban refugiados en la gruta, felizmente entregados al amor, cuando fueron sorprendidos por la marea que subía. Por la mañana, sus cuerpos entrelazados fueron encontrados sobre la arena. Al morir, Ura y Ederra se unen al elenco de amantes de la literatura cuya felicidad amorosa es interrumpida por el destino: Otelo y Desdémona, Romeo y Julieta, Dido y Eneas, Orfeo y Eurídice… La chambre d’amour los evoca.
