Baptiste Trotignon (piano)

Baptiste Trotignon started playing the piano at the age of six. He discovered Jazz and improvisation and learnt, on his own, throughout his adolescence.

In 1998, he formed his own trio, and at the age of 26, thanks to his two albums, Fluide (2000) and Sightseeing (2001), he was acclaimed as one of the most brilliant and complete pianists of his generation. Then followed two piano solo albums, Solo (2003) and Solo II (2005), that were very well received by critics and audiences alike. He has, since then, recorded a total of 14 records as leader, 9 as co-leader, and dozens more as invited artiste, sideman or composer. He has performed in the best theatres and at the best festivals all over the world, has been artistic director and composed orchestra symphony pieces (Different Spaces and L'air de rien)and has collaborated with artistes of the stature of Tom Harrell, Brad Mehldau, Mark Turner, Melody Gardot, Nicholas Angelich, Jeff Ballard, Kurt Weill, Kate Lindsey, Minino Garay, Yosvany Terry, Joe Lovano, Avishai Cohen, Ibrahim Maalouf, Camélia Jordana,Romain Leleu, Arthur Teboul, Milton Nascimento, Vincent Peirani, Michel Portal, Enrico Rava, Archie Shepp...

Bojan Z (Piano)

When a pianist like Bojan Z appears on the scene, with his singular artistic language, laden with all the density of mature Jazz vocabulary, and imbued with subtle folkloric doses of Balkan influence, he leaves an indelible trace on all the groups with which he engages, and also revolutionises the world of Jazz. This is what happened with this native of Belgrade, a true pioneer of the fusion of Jazz with Balkan music, who decided to shorten his surname (Zulfikarpasic), while expanding his musical creativity. His splendid compositions, outside of the normal trappings of piano playing, confirm his status as a unique Jazz pianist and as a musician who embodies a remarkably broad palette of influences.

Pierre de Bethmann (Piano)

Born in 1965, and raised in Paris, where he did his first regular and musical studies apace, Pierre Bethmann graduated from the ESCP (French graduate school of management) in 1987, and later studied one year at Berkley College of Music, (Boston) in 1989. Following that, he worked as management consultant for five years, till 1995, when he decided to become a fulltime musician.   

He co-founded trio PRYSM and at the end of the 1990s he recorded four albums for Blue Note and toured Europe, Japan, The United States and Canada. He subsequently raised the ILIUM project and recorded four albums in quintet and sextet combos. He carried on his work as a composer with the MEDIUM ENSEMBLE, an orchestra comprising 10 and 12 musicians, with whom he made 3 records.

Born in New Jersey in 1954, Marc Ribot is one of the most innovative and creative guitarists of the last decades. Ribot’s music – he also is a composer and singer – is always linked to the world of experimentation and improvisation, departing from absolute freedom, with a special penchant towards raw rock, direct and loud.

Kirk Knuffke grew up in Colorado and has lived in New York since 2005. There, he studied improvisation with Ornette Coleman, Art Lande and Ron Miles, and also started to collaborate with cornetist, Butch Morris. Since then, he has launched a series of albums, in his own name, first for the Clean Feed and No Business labels, and later, with pianist Jesse Stacken, for SteepleChase Records, including an album of Charles Mingus compositions. He has also worked with Matt Wilson and Mary Halvorson, with the Andrew D'Angelo Big Band, in Josh Roseman's Extended Constellations, and with artists like Roswell Rudd, Tootie Heath, Myra Melford, Cécile McLorin Salvant, James Brandon Lewis, Steve Swell, William Parker, Jeff Davis, Federico Ughi, Lisle Ellis, Charlie Hunter…
