Hakuei Kim was born in 1975 Kyoto, Japan and was brought up in Sapporo. He grew up in a family with Korean and Japanese heritage. In his late teens he moved to Sydney, where he studied Jazz and improvisation at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music under the tutelage of Mike Nock.
During his years in Australia, Hakuei Kim established himself as one of the most prominent young talents emerging on the local scene. After recording his debut album Open the Green Door (2005), he moved to Tokyo, where he continues to live and has released several albums.
Kim, a pianist, composer and arranger, has performed at Jazz festivals both in and out of Japan, Yokohama Jazz Promenade, Sapporo City Jazz, Hong Kong International Summer Jazz Festival, Gwangju International World Music Festival, Detroit Jazz Festival...
His beautiful music is full of rhythmic ideas, dynamics and space, movement and suspension.
