El montaje de La lucha por la vida tiene visos brechtianos, porque están contenidos en Pío Baroja. Es un adelantado. Una mezcla de estilos no naturalistas: vodevilescos, zarzueleros, melodramáticos, esperpénticos, sirven de presentación para analizar con la distancia suficiente a los personajes y sus peripecias. Ritmo cinematográfico para una narración teatral nada maniquea, que no nos deja empatizar con el héroe, porque el héroe
no es ejemplar ni dueño de su destino, y tiene que tomar decisiones que no siempre son las políticamente correctas. El espectador se coloca en el brete de observar activamente a los personajes.
Ramón Barea dirige esta coproducción del Teatro Arriaga y el Teatro Español de Madrid, además de encabezar el reparto formado por Arnatz Puertas, Aitor Fernandino, Olatz Ganboa, Ione lrazabal, Itziar Lazkano, Sandra Martín, Alfonso Torregrosa, Leire Ormazabal y Diego Pérez.
